The head of the US Department for Internal Security, Kristi Noem, was the victim of a thief while taking dinner at a restaurant in the center of Washington, DC, Sunday evening, she confirmed on Monday.

Noem, who was asked about theft during an event at the White House, confirmed the incident and said that the problem has not yet been resolved.

The secret service, the institution that ensures Noem's security, analyzed the images captured by the restaurant surveillance cameras and noticed that a white man, wearing a medical mask, stole the bag and left the restaurant, said a source of the law enforcement forces.

The thief stole Kristi Noem the driving license, the medicines, the key from the apartment, the passport, the access card from the Department for Internal Security, the makeup kit, white checks and about $ 3,000 in cash.

The Secret Service opened an investigation to detect any use of the financial instruments belonging to Noem, the source said.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary in the Department for Internal Security, told Newsnation that Noem celebrated Easter with the family when theft took place.

“She had her grandfather because her entire family was in the city (including children and grandchildren) and pampered them with activities, dinner and Easter gifts,” said McLaughlin, quoted by The Hill.

Criticized after displaying with a luxury watch in a prison in El Salvador

The head of the US Department for Internal Security has sparked rumors in the US at the end of March, when it was displayed with a Rolex clock evaluated at $ 50,000 during a visit to a maximum security prison in El Salvador.

Kristi Noem then visited the mega-prison known as CECOT (the Center for Terrorism Insulation), where Venezuelan men deported to the Law of foreign enemies of 1798 are in detention.

“If you come illegally to our country, this is one of the consequences you can face,” she says in a video posted on X.

The bright clock, a cosmograph daytona, has strongly contrasted with the infamous imprisonment in which the Trump administration deported and incarcerated hundreds of Venezueleni migrants say they are involved in the Aragua train band, writes Business Insider at that time.
