Alexandru Munteanu nominated as Prime Minister of Moldova. A new government on the horizon


The president wished Munteanu to build a cabinet that “will meet the most important expectations of citizens: ensure peace, prepare the country for accession to the EU, strengthen the economy and raise people's standard of living,” the Europa Libera Romania portal reported.
The economist now has 15 days to form a government and obtain a vote of confidence from parliament.

Munteanu, who holds Moldovan, Romanian and American citizenship, has not lived in the Republic of Moldova for decades. This is a new figure in Moldovan politics. He is not a member of the ruling party, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).
A businessman with extensive experience in finance and economics, in the 1990s he worked at the National Bank of Moldova, and then at the World Bank and investment funds based in Ukraine.
Munteanu decided that he intended to focus on developing Moldova's economy after recent years of stagnation. He announced that the new cabinet would probably include many ministers from the previous government, the Europa Libera Romania website reported.
