Dane Jonas Vingegaard (28), winner of the 2025 Tour of Spain and runner-up in the Tour de France behind Tadej Pogacar (27), has suggested that his 2026 goal could be victory in the Tour of Italy.
Vacation hasn't started yet for Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease), who continued to train for the last competitions of the year. At the Andorra Cycling Masters, he placed 4th, being the winner Primoz Roglicthe last race follows, in November, in Saitama (Japan).
In September, the Dane won overall for the first time in the Tour of Spain, while in the Tour de France, which he won in 2022 and 2023, he finished behind the one who strongly dominated the year, Tadej Pogacar.
Jonas Vingegaard: “A 7 out of 10 year, maybe even an 8”
“It's a pretty good year”, he assessed his evolution from 2025 in an interview with l'Equipe. “Not the best I've had, obviously, I think the 2023 season was better. But to finish 2nd in the Tour de France and win the Vuelta isn't a bad season. My goal was to win the Tour, so from that point of view I didn't reach my target, but I still won the Vuelta. I'd say it's a 7 out of 10, something like that, maybe even an 8“, he weighed.
Asked if a season can be considered good in the absence of a victory in the Great Loop, the northerner answered without hesitation. “Of course. Cycling also exists outside the Tour de France. Obviously, this remains the most important race, and that's why I say the season wasn't perfect, I should have won to make it perfect. But there are many other races, such as the Vuelta. I also enjoyed all the week long races,” said Vingegaard, who won the Tour of the Algarve and was second in the Dauphine.

In 2025, however, he also had a rather serious medical problem, after he fell in March, in Paris-Nice, suffering a concussion that kept him on the sidelines for a while and interrupted his spring rhythm.
Jonas Vingegaard: “It was important to win another Grand Tour”
The final part, however, was an uphill one, with the first victory in La Vuelta. “For me, it was important to win a grand tour again. But not because I hadn't won in two years, but rather because of the serious fall last year“, he told the same source, referring to the April 2024 Tour of the Basque Country. “It took me a long time to come back. To get back on the bike, but especially to get back to the level I had before the fall“, Vingegaard pointed out.

He then spoke about the possibility of attacking both the Giro and Le Tour in 2026. “Of course. I haven't decided the plan with the team yet. I have my ideas and my wishes. The Tour de France is so important that it will definitely be part of this plan, and the Giro will also be included if possible,” Vingegaard emphasized.
It is the only Grand Tour missing from his record, and his conquest smiles on the Dane. “It would be great of course, it's a dream to win the three grand tours, for all riders I think. So it's something very important to me. We might say we'll try this next year and see what happens, we'll see. I would be very happy to participate in the Giro as well“, he concluded.
