The head of the Department of Emergency Situations (DSU), Raed Arafat, told Digi24 on Wednesday that the firemen did not indicate a possible cause other than gas accumulation for the explosion that took place last week in a block on Vicina street no. 1 from the Rahova district of the Capital.

The secretary of state said that the spread of false information about the incident on Friday, October 17, is aimed at reducing the public's trust in the authorities “to the maximum”.

“I'm talking to the colleagues who intervened. No one raised the problem other than the gas. The problem with another explosive and that someone planted a bomb (…), these are speculations, fakes that appear for a specific purpose: reducing the population's trust to the maximum in whatever the authorities say”, said Raed Arafat, quoted by News.ro.

He complained that “they are trying to reduce trust in investigators, reduce trust in the Ministry of the Interior, reduce trust in anything an authority says”.

The head of the DSU warned that such “totally baseconical theories, which have absolutely no basis”, convince some people, who end up no longer believing the conclusions of the investigators.

Arafat said such campaigns “can be done by groups inside or outside or together,” by “groups whose interest is destabilization, is to reduce trust.”

The hypothesis considered by the investigators regarding the explosion

A crack in a gas pipe outside the respective block is the main hypothesis taken into account by the investigators, announced Cristian Gheorghe, director of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Romanian Police, in a press statement.

“Outside the block, on the gas transport column, a crack was found, the piece of pipe and the electric cable from its vicinity were lifted. They serve the conclusions of the expertise. At the moment we cannot conclude with certainty that this is the 100% cause. It is the main hypothesis”, said the police representative.

He stated that there is still no preliminary expert report. “When the expertise from INSEMEX and INEC comes, we will have more details about the dynamics and causes of the explosion,” the official also declared.
