Only President Isaac Herzog left a thought for the pope: “The hope that his memory can inspire acts of kindness and hope for humanity,” writes Corriere della Sera.

Silence, in this case, makes noise. But not only there is no message of condolences from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, nor from Foreign Minister Gideon about the death of Pope Francis, but the latter even asked for the posts published by Israeli embassies from all over the world, arousing the indignation of the Israeli ambassadors. The messages said, “Rest in peace, Pope Francis. May his memory be a blessing,” reports the Italian newspaper.

Israeli officials did not hide the reason for this silence and these resounding cancellations: Pope's statements about Gaza are not to the liking of the Jerusalem administration. Phrases such as: “What is happening in Gaza is not a war. It is cruel.” Or accusations against Israel of “bombing children and reaps to machine guns.”

In his last message Urbi et Orbi, in addition to the words dedicated to the gas -“ignore situation” -Francis also said: “I am close to the suffering of Christians in Palestine and Israel, as well as all the Israeli people and all the Palestinian people. I am worried about the growing climate of anti -Semitism that spreads throughout the world.”

Pope Francis died on Monday at 88.
