The decision will be taken during the Extraordinary Conference of the PSD Buzău organization.
On Thursday, the government established the organization of partial elections on December 7, both in Bucharest and 12 other localities in the country, as well as in Buzau.
Marcel Ciolacu seems to have obtained the support of the mayor of Buzău, Constantin Toma, but he did not hide his reservations about the former prime minister. The mayor declared that it would be difficult for him to campaign for Ciolacu, after criticizing him in the past.
“I rightly criticized him for the stupid things he did and now to go with you and say 'Look what a good boy Marcel is Vote for him'… It's very difficult”, said Toma, during a program on Antena 3 CNN.
Asked what he will tell people when he goes on the campaign trail with Ciolacu, he answered:
“Now I'm totally stuck. I have to think of what to say. You can tell I'm out of my head right now… I'm in a really bad situation.”
The mayor of Buzău did not hesitate to ridicule the county budget, claiming that the future president of the CJ depends on the money coming from Bucharest.
“Well, here is a smaller budget. As you know, the budget from the County Council is 100% financed from Bucharest. And I think that if Mr. Grindeanu (prime minister) comes in 2027, only milk and honey will flow to Buzău”, said Thomas.
The mayor specified that he will participate in the PSD Congress only if he is included in the delegation of the county organization and emphasized that he will not vote for Sorin Grindeanu for the leadership of the party.
“Well, if they put me on the delegation, I'll go. (…) Personally, no. I'll vote against it, even if it doesn't help the cause.”
In the end, Toma confirmed that he will still support Ciolacu at CJ Buzău:
“In the end, Marcel Ciolacu is the one who proposed me to run for Buzău City Hall and I didn't make fun of him, nor the people of Buzău, I say, at least in terms of the votes I received.”
Currently, CJ Buzău is led by Adrian Petre, after the former president Lucian Romașcanu was appointed in the summer of this year as a member of the European Court of Auditors, on behalf of Romania.
“In principle, the PSD candidate for the position of president of the CJ Buzău will be Marcel Ciolacu. However, the decision will be taken on Saturday during the Extraordinary Conference of the PSD Buzău county organization”, stated the president of PSD Buzau, Romeo Lungu, quoted by Agerpres.
