I always carry a pin with me: I learned a couple of tricks – a small thing solves big problems

Sometimes the simplest things are truly irreplaceable. An ordinary safety pin is just a tiny detail that we often don't even notice in the sewing box.

But it has a whole range of unexpected uses – from protecting clothes to ancient traditions. Experienced housewives shared a couple of their secrets.

Anti-static electricity

In winter and autumn, for many people, clothes “stick” to the body, hair becomes electrified, and when touching metal objects, you feel a discharge of current. To get rid of this effect, simply pin a small pin from the inside of the garment – for example, to the hem of a skirt or the inside seam of a jacket. The metal will relieve static tension and the problem will disappear.

Ancient amulet

Our grandmothers believed that a safety pin could protect against the evil eye and an unkind glance. It was pinned with the point down, on the wrong side of clothing – especially on children's clothing. Even today, many women continue to use this method as a quiet amulet, combining simplicity and symbolism.

A little trick for the house

Try placing a few pins in the corner of your mattress to help reduce the build-up of static electricity. Some people consider this a superstition, while others note: after this you really sleep more peacefully. Sometimes simple things work better than they seem.

Help at home

  • Pin a pin to the hanger in the closet – the clothes will stop electrifying.
  • If the zipper breaks, the pin will temporarily replace the slider.
  • On the road or on a hike, it can help out: fasten a torn strap, replace a button, or even become a mini-hook for fishing.

A safety pin carries a whole arsenal of useful functions: from practical use to a piece of folk wisdom. Keep at least one on hand – maybe one day it will save the situation.

Important: this information is based on popular beliefs and the experience of generations. There is no scientific evidence for the described methods, and “magic” itself is only part of cultural traditions and myths.
