Dozens of people from Băile Olănești were evacuated after a gas pipe was accidentally cracked

A gas pipeline in the Băile Olănești resort was accidentally cracked on Thursday, October 23, by a team of workers. Dozens of people were evacuated.

It is a main natural gas supply pipe that was broken during some work on the sewage system. Even the workers who cracked it called 112.
“Around 2:12 p.m., the military firefighters were notified by calling 112 that, in the town of Băile Olăneşti, Cheia street, following the performance of some works on a sewage network, an underground gas pipeline was broken”. specified ISU Vâlcea.
The authorities evacuated 35 people living in the affected area:
“For the protection of citizens and for the intervention to take place in safe conditions, the area was cordoned off within a radius of 800 m and 35 people were evacuated from nearby homes“.
Firefighters from ISU Vâlcea intervened, securing the area to prevent an explosion, together with the teams of the natural gas distribution company. A CBRN crew was also present at the scene of the incident.
As a measure to prevent a disaster, the gas supply was temporarily stopped.
The intervention teams are still working to remove the risks.
