President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Sweden signed a preliminary agreement on Wednesday regarding the purchase by Ukraine of 100 to 150 JAS 39 Gripen E combat aircraft, the latest version of these machines.

The ceremony took place at the factory of the manufacturer Saab in the city of Linkoeping in southern Sweden.
JAS 39 Gripen E is a new generation of the Gripen fighter with an AI agent. The first such aircraft was delivered to the Swedish Air Force on Monday.
It's about buying. The Swedes rule out donation
According to Kristersson, the agreement does not involve any new donations. – It is rather about long-term cooperation in the field of air defense and the possibility of concluding a very large contract in the defense sector – he emphasized.
According to the Prime Minister of Sweden, “If the agreement is implemented, it will be the largest contract for Swedish fighter aircraft in history. – Various long-term financing options are being considered – he clarified.
A donation is not possible, but a contribution and Russian assets are possible
When asked about these options by journalists, he mentioned frozen Russian assets or the contribution of the so-called coalition of the willing, i.e. countries supporting Ukraine.
When asked why he would like to acquire Gripens, Zelensky replied that “these fighters are fantastic.” – We hope to acquire at least 100 such aircraft. We understand that it is a long process, also financial, he emphasized.
According to the Swedish Armed Forces, the JAS 39 Gripen E is not only an improved version of the existing fighter, but in many respects it is a completely new type of aircraft – it has a greater range and armament capacity.
As emphasized, the new fighter is distinguished primarily by a new generation operating system with an AI agent. This equipment is intended to allow the pilot to become familiar with more information. “The aircraft was designed to be able to operate in an area over which we have no control,” it explained.
