Novak Djokovic (38 years old) has officially confirmed that he will not take part in this year's edition of the Paris Masters, a tournament he has won seven times throughout his career. It is the second year in a row that the world leader has withdrawn from the Paris-Bercy competition.
The decision comes just days after the Serb pulled out of the Six Kings Slam third-place match in Saudi Arabia against American Taylor Fritz, citing physical problems.
The message sent by Novak Djokovic to the fans in Paris
Shortly after the announcement, the Serbian champion posted an emotional message on social media:
Dear Paris, Unfortunately I will not be competing in this year's edition of the Rolex Masters tournament. I have great memories and great successes here, especially the fact that I managed to win the title seven times.
I hope to see you again next year. Thank you.– posted the Serbian on his official X account
Medical issues and reduced schedule at the end of the season
The retirement announcement didn't surprise many, especially after the Saudi Arabian exit, when Djokovic told fans:
“I'm sorry to everyone… now it's time to rest and deal with the physical issues I have.”
The Serbian is having an excellent season with a record of 35 wins and 11 losses, an ATP title won in Geneva and semifinals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
However, Djokovic now seems to be focusing on his recovery and preparation for the Champions Tour (ATP Finals), where he has already qualified for the 18th time in his career, equaling Roger Federer's record (44 years).
Alcaraz and Sinner will headline the Paris tour
The 2025 edition of the Paris Masters will be the first played in the new La Defense Arena, from October 27 to November 2. In the absence of Djokovic, the main names of the tournament will be Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old) and Jannik Sinner (24 years old), who are fighting for supremacy in the current ATP season.
