Deputy of the regional Legislative Assembly Ilya Zaitsev decided to take control of the situation with rats in Krasnoyarsk. The parliamentarian spoke about this on his Telegram channel.
The deputy noted that the problem with rodents in the city has long ceased to be of a “spot” nature. Krasnoyarsk residents regularly report hordes of rats in the historical center and other areas. Therefore, the issue needs to be resolved systematically: remove waste in a timely manner, ensure that garbage containers are in good working order and closed, basements are sealed, and areas are lit and clean.
Ilya Zaitsev is sure that in this situation, rodents will simply have nowhere to live.
“An open tank is a constant feeder: the smell of food attracts rodents, and they settle nearby. The lid deprives them of access to both food and shelter. For example, studies conducted in China prove that in cities where sealed containers have been introduced, the number of rats decreases several times. Therefore, it is an important task to keep this in mind when updating containers, including at the expense of the city budget,” the parliamentarian commented on the situation.

The deputy also noted that Krasnoyarsk needs to learn from the experience of other large cities and move from one-time treatments to comprehensive deratization schemes:
“In Moscow and Novosibirsk they use aerosol fumigation, in St. Petersburg they use regular inspections and preventive maintenance in the basements of the old foundation. It is a combination of measures that works: sanitation, mechanical means, burrow elimination, and monitoring and education of residents. Krasnoyarsk needs to follow the same path,” said Ilya Zaitsev.
In addition, the parliamentarian proposed creating a headquarters in Krasnoyarsk for deratization of the historical center, which would include representatives of Rospotrebnadzor, the mayor's office, the Criminal Code, the republican operator and sanitary services. Also, add a separate type of “incident” in the 005 service so that residents’ requests are not lost among others.
The deputy said that in the near future he will prepare and send relevant proposals to the first deputy head of the city. Ilya Zaitsev asked Krasnoyarsk residents to leave addresses, photos and videos of problem areas in the comments under the post on his Telegram channel.
