Krasnoyarsk surgeons performed a complex reconstruction of the jaw, transplanting bone from the woman’s leg. This was reported in the press service of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital.
The woman complained to doctors that she could not chew food normally two years after installing a titanium plate in her lower jaw. Offer Prosthetic options were not available to her due to the danger of the plate cutting through the soft tissue.
To solve the problem, we used a modern method, considered the “gold standard” in world practice. Using 3D modeling, surgical templates were created that made it possible to accurately recreate the shape of the jaw from three fragments of the patient’s own fibula.
A special feature of the operation was the connection of the transplanted bone to the circulatory system – the graft vessels were sewn into the artery and vein in the neck. This ensures normal blood supply and promotes graft engraftment.
Three teams of specialists took part in the operation: maxillofacial surgeons, microsurgeons and anesthesiologists. Now the patient will be able to undergo dentures and completely restore chewing function.
