– Finally, we have a final effect that allows us to achieve the intended goal – safely, comfortably and in a short time. It is intended to serve not only western Poland, but it is part of the Baltic-Adriatic transport corridor. Nearly 470 km of this key transport corridor passes through Poland, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka on Monday during a press conference.

The S3 expressway is an element of the Trans-European Baltic-Adriatic Transport Corridor and a fragment of the European route E65 connecting Malmö, Sweden, with the Greek city of Chania on Crete. Its total length is nearly 4,000. km.

– The S3 road is of key importance for the developing port in Świnoujście. It is extremely important for the investment we are implementing, i.e. for Cape Pomerania, for the development of the port in Świnoujście, so that its potential will be even greater when the largest container ships in the world arrive in Western Pomerania – added Marchewka.

The section of the S3 expressway put into use on Monday was the last missing section of the S3 Świnoujście – Troszyn expressway, as well as the entire S3 expressway in Poland. The S3 Świnoujście – Troszyn expressway, 33 km long, was divided into two sections: Świnoujście – Dargobądz and Dargobadz – Troszyn. Design and construction contracts were signed in 2020, and construction works started in early 2022.

The construction of the S3 expressway started in 2007 with the first works on the Szczecin – Gorzów Wielkopolski section. In 2010, this 81 km long section was opened to traffic.

– Back then it was the first large construction site in our voivodeship. The section between Szczecin and Gorzów was a great challenge and learning experience for us. Today we have many such investments, i.e. the S6 and S11 expressways, i.e. over 300 km of expressways that we are building, or will soon build, for over PLN 20 billion, said Łukasz Lendner, director of the Szczecin branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

In total, the entire S3 expressway counts 471 km (including 17 km shared with the A6 motorway). The cost of implementing S3 from Świnoujście to Lubawka in 2007-2025 amounted to over PLN 15 billionand EU funding under various programs amounted to approx. PLN 7.7 billion.(PAP)
