Smith took part in a ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of the US Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton.
The American general noted that the Marines are a group of warriors who have dedicated themselves to protecting the United States. In particular, they “braved the cold of Korea” and “fought on the streets of Iraq and in the mountains of Afghanistan.”
“And the next fight is coming. Believe me, it's coming,” Smith said. “When the next fight comes, and unfortunately it will, the Marines will be ready. Ready to fight, ready to win, because that's who we are. That's all we do.” […] We are the 911 force.”
According to the commander of the US Marine Corps, it is not technology or equipment that brings victory, but the reliability, determination and character of the Marine.
