The Police Prefecture in Paris announced the establishment of a “security perimeter” on Champs-Élysées, where suspicious sounds were reported on Saturday night in the area of a perfume store on the famous boulevard, so that it was confirmed that it was a false alarm, Le Figaro reports, according to News.ro.
Witnesses in the area reported sounds of detonations or firearms in the area of the store, so the police went to the scene and isolated the area.
“Following a noise that could come from a detonation or from the fall of a heavy object, the police were called on the spot,” wrote the police prefecture on X. “A security perimeter was instituted,” the institution said.
On social networks, witnesses claimed that they heard noises compared to “shootings” or a “machine gun”, and in the distributed images, people running on the adjacent streets could be observed. Part of the boulevard was evacuated by the police.
Finally, the authorities found that it was a man who threw firecrackers.
According to Le Figaro, a judicial investigation follows.
