Trump will talk to Putin. Ukraine will get Tomahawk missiles?

US President Donald Trump will talk by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Thursday, the White House said, confirming the information from Axios. Trump previously announced that he needed to talk to Putin before he decided to give Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

The conversation is scheduled to take place a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the White House, during which the leaders are to discuss the sale of American Tomahawk cruise missiles. On Sunday, Trump said he would have to talk to the Russian leader before making a decision on the matter because such a step would constitute a “new phase of aggression.” He said then that he had informed Zelensky about his intention to talk to Putin.

“I would talk to Putin first and I might say, 'Listen, if this war doesn't get resolved, I'm going to send them Tomahawks,'” Trump said.

According to the Financial Times, the idea is to send Ukraine only a few dozen missiles, but these will be missiles with the longest range that Kiev has received from its Western partners. Their range is over 1,500 km, while the French-British SCALP/Storm Shadows – 250-400 km. However, the problem is the lack of launchers for these missiles in Ukraine's resources. (PAP)
