Rostelecom will conduct a digital literacy course for older people in Krasnoyarsk

16 October 13:20
As part of the ABC of the Internet project, implemented by Rostelecom together with the Social Fund of Russia (SFR), a free month-long course on the basics of working on a smartphone will be held in Krasnoyarsk. The provider’s specialists will teach digital literacy to students at the People’s University “Active Longevity”.
In five classes, representatives of the older generation will learn, for example, how to customize a smartphone to suit their needs, use mobile applications, including Government Services, and make secure online payments. The first lesson will take place on October 22 at the Rostelecom Museum of Communications.
Andrey Kuznetsov, director of the operation center of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom, project curator: “We will issue each participant with a textbook “Basics of using a smartphone.” This will make it more convenient for older people to study the material, keep notes, and return to them if necessary. In addition to the printed version, they also have access to a digital version: it is posted on the project website. The main thing our course provides is live communication, detailed answers to questions about mobile devices and digital services, as well as analysis of specific situations that people face.”
Irina Lysenko, head of the educational department of the Krasnoyarsk Regional People's University “Active Longevity”:
“The group enrolled in the Rostelecom course in just a week – more than 20 people. Despite the fact that smartphones have long been part of everyday life, representatives of the older generation still have difficulties, for example, with storing and transferring personal data and financial transactions. It’s important to help them understand how to use technology safely and confidently.”
