US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, October 14, that Russian President Vladimir Putin should “do something about the war” in Ukraine, reports Kyiv Independent.

At a joint press conference with the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, Trump said Putin “should have won the war in a week”, while the conflict is now entering the fourth year.

Trump has qualified the “horrible” law, said that Russia has “lost one and a half million soldiers” injured or killed.

The war “makes (Putin) look very bad,” said Trump, adding that the Russian president “has to put an end to this war.”

Trump also praised Ukraine's defense, noting: “Who would have thought that Ukraine could have fought against Russia for four years?”

“You know that in Russia there are currently long tails at gas stations … Suddenly, his economy will collapse … I had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but he simply does not want to put an end to the war,” said Trump.

Trump's statement on 1.5 million victims among Russian forces is not supported by independent estimates, notes Kyiv Independent.

Western intelligence assessments suggest that the total number of killed and wounded Russian soldiers could be near or just over 1 million. A common investigation by the Russian Mediazona and the Russian service of the BBC has identified over 135,000 Russian soldiers until October 2025, which is also well below Trump.

On the other hand, an official report of Ukrainian secret services claims that Russia has lost 281,550 soldiers in Ukraine in the first eight months of this year.
