Cristian Popescu Piedone was sent to court by the anti -corruption prosecutors, who accuses him that, during the period when he led the Consumer Protection Authority he warned a hotel of being targeted by controls. This is the International Hotel in Sinaia, owned by former Liberal Dan Radu Rușanu, former head of the Financial Supervisory Authority.

The DNA announced on Wednesday that Piedone was sent to court for the crime of “allowing the access of unauthorized persons to information that is not intended for publicity, in order to obtain for themselves or for another money, goods or other undue benefits.”

The former head of ANPC has been under July under judicial control.

The accusations that DNA brings to Piedone

The DNA accuses the former head of the National Authority for Consumer Protection that on March 7, 2025 “he disclosed to a representative of a trading company that manages a hotel in the city of Sinaia that the ANPC officials are to, on the same day, a thematic control at the respective hotel, as well as the objectives of the control, in order to obtain some useful uses in the area. protection of consumer rights ”.

“Specifically, the defendant Popescu Cristian Victor Piedone would have given directions to the hotel representative on how to prepare the spaces in the hotel unit to be presented to the ANPC officials, to ensure compliance.

Subsequent to this information, in order to prevent the application of sanctions and to order corrective measures by the civil servants within the ANPC, the representative of the hotel would have taken all the necessary measures to not be ascertained after the control to be carried out, violations of the legislation specific to the consumer protection.
Following the control, the accommodation unit was not sanctioned by ANPC representatives ”, say DNA prosecutors.

The file was sent for trial to the Brasov Court, with the proposal to maintain judicial control in the case of Cristian Popescu Piedone.
