Grupa Żywiec announces its end. It is one of the oldest breweries in Poland


“Faced with the decline in the beer market, rising costs and taxes, Grupa Żywiec will discontinue production at Browar Namysłów at the beginning of 2026. The brewery's employees will receive a full severance package and additional support agreed with the trade unions,” we read in a statement from Grupa Żywiec, which appeared on its website on October 15. About 100 people are expected to lose their jobs.
“At the same time, Grupa Żywiec is conducting advanced talks with investors on the sale of the brewery's assets. Their details are covered by confidentiality agreements. The company will continue brewing its brands in other breweries,” it added.

Grupa Żywiec ends production at Browar Namysłów. The city mayor takes the floor
According to the information available on the Żywiec Group's website, it currently brews beer in four breweries. They are located in Żywiec (Silesian Voivodeship), Warka (Masovian Voivodeship), Elbląg (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) and Namysłów (Opole Voivodeship). The last of the mentioned breweries is one of the oldest in Poland – it was founded in 1321.

Jacek Fior, the mayor of a city located in the Opole region, spoke on the resignation of Grupa Żywiec from brewing beer in Browar Namysłów. He emphasized that he had been assured that the employees would be provided with appropriate care.

– We, as the commune office, together with the employment office, local companies, but also future investors, will do everything to help in this difficult situation and to ensure that as few people are harmed as possible, he said.
