According to a statement of the National Anticorruption Directorate, the prosecutors within the Corruption Combat Section ordered the judicial control of Cristian Popescu Piedone, to allow the access of unauthorized persons to information that is not intended for publicity, in order to obtain undue benefits.
The indictment shows that, on March 7, 2025, as president of the ANPC, Piedone would be disclosed to a representative of a trading company that manages a hotel in Sinaia that, on the same day, the officials of the institution were to carry out a thematic control. He would also have transmitted the objectives of the control, so that the hotel could avoid any sanctions for irregularities in the field of consumer protection.
Indications to “ensure compliance”
“The defendant Popescu Cristian Victor Piedone would have given directions to the hotel representative on how to prepare the spaces in the hotel unit to be presented to the ANPC officials, to ensure compliance”states in the DNA statement.
Subsequent to this information, the representative of the hotel would have taken all the necessary measures so that, following the control, deviations from the consumer protection legislation should be noted. As a result, the accommodation unit was not sanctioned by ANPC inspectors.
The file, sent to the Brasov Court
The file was submitted for trial to the Brasov Court, with the proposal to maintain the measure of judicial control ordered.
DNA states that this stage represents the completion of the criminal investigation and sending the indictment to the court for trial, according to the Criminal Procedure Code, and that it “Can't defeat the principle of presumption of innocence”.
