Residents take potatoes for free. The entrepreneur demands a refund


How reports “Fakt”on Saturday, October 11, 150 tons of potatoes appeared in the field in Dąbrowica. The news quickly spread on social media that they could be taken for free. Residents arrived with trailers, wheelbarrows and nets without asking for details. After the weekend, the potato owner discovered that his goods had completely disappeared within a few days.

Although many people thought that the vegetables were free to take, they were actually goods belonging to the owner of a nearby distillery. Piotr Gryta, who owned the goods, explained that the vegetables were supposed to be put into production. Of the 150 tons of potatoes, only remnants and wheel marks remained.
“We bought the goods on Thursday. We paid for them on Friday. They arrived that day and we dumped them in the field because there was nowhere to keep them. Production was to start in a dozen or so days,” admitted Piotr Gryta in an interview with “Fakt”.
“It wasn't a handout. It was simple theft,” admitted the farmer who has been running a processing plant for 25 years.
In the blink of an eye, over the weekend, as many as 6 trucks, a total of 150 tons of potatoes, which were supposed to be sent for further processing at the distillery, which is located a few hundred meters from the field where the vegetables were stored, disappeared.

In an interview with TVN24, the entrepreneur admitted that he was in a mess. He admitted he didn't live in the area and had a family event over the weekend. He revealed that in his wildest nightmares he would not have expected such a situation. “For one person the value is one thing, for another – another value. For me it was the value of the goods to be processed. That's all. There were 150 tons of potatoes in the field,” explained the farmer.

According to local media reports, some people came to the field and took 1-2 bags. However, there were also people who arrived with tractors and trailers loaded with tons of vegetables.
When the news about this bizarre and dramatic case for the farmer became public, some people decided to return the goods. Gryta said he had no grudge against such people. However, he treats the case of wholesale taking of potatoes as a deliberate act.

Piotr Gryta announces that he will not leave the matter aside.
“If anyone took potatoes, please come forward and give them back. Otherwise, I will have to report it to the prosecutor's office. This was my stuff. Legal, paid. What happened is simply unbelievable” – he says in an interview with “Fakt”.
In an interview with TVN24, the farmer announced: “I hope that those who were there will contact me, explain the situation and we will settle the matter amicably. If not, the case may go to the prosecutor's office.”
