“Nadia Comăneci, a legend of the national and world sport, and Mihai Covaliu, the president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, were the guests of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and of the Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna.
The meeting held in the office of the Prime Minister of the Victoria Palace had as a discussion topics the preparations that are made for the celebration of the “Year of Nadia Comăneci” in 2026 and for the gala dedicated to the uneven gymnasium, which will take place on May 29.
It was also discussed about organizing competitions of gymnastics, sporting, educational events and launching the documentary dedicated to Nadia Comăneci. Encouraging the practice of sport by children and young people was another topic discussed at the meeting at the Victoria Palace, ”the Government of Romania announced.

Bolojan also reported that the Executive will provide all the necessary support for organizing events, according to the Government announcement.
2026 is “Year Nadia Comăneci”
“2026 was instituted” Nadia Comăneci Year “by Law no. 130/2025, 50 years from the historical moment in Montreal, to celebrate the extraordinary performances of the Romanian gymnast.
The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee is designated by law the coordinating institution of the entire activity carried out in 2026, to elaborate a calendar with sport and educational events that will be transmitted to the national authorities, the diplomatic missions and the representatives of Romania operating on the territory of other states.
According to the law, The Parliament, the Presidential Administration, the Government, the authorities of the local public administration, as well as the public institutions subordinated or coordinating them may allocate funds from their own budgets or from other sources attracted according to the law.in order to organize or support logistically and/or financially the sports, cultural, artistic, educational or promotion programs ”, the Government also transmitted.
