“The settlement is under the control of Ukraine's defense forces”the battalion transmitted, publishing images that would show Ukrainian soldiers in the village.

The release of the locality was later confirmed by the General Staff. Ukrainian forces advanced 3.5 kilometers inside (about 2.2 miles), causing significant losses to Russian troops and capturing more prisoners, according to the statement.

It is not clear so far when the village was exactly released, Kyiv independently reports.

President Volodimir Zelenski said in his evening speech on October 12 that the Ukrainian forces continue the counter -offensive operations near Dobropilia, in the Donetk region, as well as in other areas, including around Orikhiv, in the Zaporojie region.

Vladislav Voloșîn, the spokesman for the South Defense forces, confirmed for Kyiv Independent that the Ukrainian military continues to carry out an operation to improve the tactical situation on this portion of the front.

According to Voloșîn, Ukrainian troops maintain defensive positions and prevent the advancement of Russian forces, especially near Kamianske, Stepove and Plavni. Meanwhile, Russian troops are trying to bring assault units closer to the front line, especially in the area of Mala Tokmacka village.

“(Russia) plans to carry out assault operations with small infantry groups. In addition, the enemy continues frequent attacks with kamikaze drones”said Voloșîn.

“Every day we register an increase in the number of artillery strokes – over 250 daily.the spokesman added, stressing that the objective of Russia is the complete destruction of Ukrainian positions.

Voloșin also stated that it is still too early to talk about an Ukrainian advance, as the operation is ongoing.

Mali Șcerbaki is located in the Orikhiv sector, in the southeast of the Zaporojie region. Russian troops advanced to settlement in early summer. Since then, the locality has been in a contested gray area or under Russian control, according to the Deeptate front monitoring group, based on open sources.

Moscow currently occupies about 70% of the Zaporojie region, but the regional capital, the city of Zaporojie, remains under Ukrainian control. In the last month, the Ukrainian forces rejected the Russian troops that advanced 15–20 kilometers (about 6 miles) to the strategic Dobropilia -Kramatorsk road, near the Pokrovsk played city.
