Local television station WTOC reported that the services arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. on Sunday (approx. 7 a.m. Polish time). “They found a crowd of people there; several people had gunshot wounds,” WTOC reported.
“Many victims and witnesses fled, seeking shelter from shots fired into nearby premises and homes,” the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office reported on Platform X.
The statement emphasized that four of the injured were in a serious condition.

Nancy Mace, representative of the first district of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives, commented on the tragedy on the X platform. The Republican wrote that she was “devastated” after learning of the shooting in Beaufort County, of which St. Helena is part. She urged anyone with information about the circumstances of the incident to contact the Beaufort Sheriff's Office.
“This is tragic and difficult for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue our investigation. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.
