A former Miss Italy, married to a well-known Italian footballer, raised the alarm about the hate in social media after they received messages from an account with a Romanian name, according to Corriere Della Sera.
“I want to send a message: to make people understand that you can react to verbal abuse. Maybe nothing will happen. But I didn't stay silent,” said Rachele Risaliti, Miss Italy 2016, model, influencer and entrepreneur (she has her own jewelry brand), wife of Bari midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli, originally from Canosa di Puglia, with a Serie A background and European champion in Mancini's national team.
On Saturday evening, December 27, a few hours after the Biancorossi's home draw against Avellino, the couple received a horrific message on Instagram.
“May cancer devour you all. May your children and everything you have die,” wrote the user named Cosmin Florin.
The footballer's wife quickly reported the incident in a story on his Instagram page: “More and more often we read comments or messages like this. It's disgusting, it's shameful.”
“Football should be a time of fun and joy, despite everything. I am truly saddened, bitter and disgusted by all of this. Please know that we will be reporting this,” said Rachele Risaliti.
According to the Italian publication, she said the message “appeared as a comment on a post with a photo of us with our son Brando, who is almost two years old. Gaetano read it and deleted it without telling me. He didn't want to upset me. But it was also sent in our private chats on Instagram.”
Rachele Risaliti stated that she made everything public because the message referred to her child and family: It is very serious. We know that football fans are passionate, that there are better seasons and forgettable ones, matches where the team plays well and others not, but football is entertainment, it is a spectacle. The attack on the family bothered me enormously.”
