Karol Nawrocki a better president than Andrzej Duda? Results of the CBOS survey


CBOS conducted the study from August 21 to September 1, 2025, shortly after Karol Nawrocki was sworn in as president. The survey results were published on October 7. The respondents were asked several questions, including: this, concerning comparisons with Andrzej Duda.

The next question was about attitudes towards Nawrocki's presidency.
- 53 percent respondents look at the new presidency with optimism, although in most cases these hopes are moderate;
- 33 percent respondents do not believe that Karol Nawrocki will prove successful as the head of state;
- 14 percent has no opinion on this subject.
The next question was about hopes and fears related to the new president.
- 47 percent Poles have hopes for the new president,
- 37 percent feels concerned about his term of office.
It is worth noting that hopes are rather moderate (30%), while fears are expressed more strongly (20%). A certain group of respondents, constituting 9%, declare that they feel both hope and fear at the same time, and 5% does not have any expectations for Nawrocki's presidency.

The respondents were also asked whether whether Karol Nawrocki will represent all Poles or only his voters.
- 47 percent respondents believe that he will be president only for his voters;
- 44 percent stipulates that it will try to take into account the needs of all citizens, regardless of their political preferences;
- 9 percent respondents have no opinion on this matter.
Another issue was putting the good of the state above political divisions.
- 44 percent Poles believe that Nawrocki will make decisions based solely on the good of the country, regardless of political interests;
- 42 percent stipulates that he will act mainly in the interests of the groups with which he has previously cooperated;
- 13 percent does not undertake or is unable to answer this question.

The respondents' answers show that we still have a long way to go subsequent months of difficult cooperation with the current government:
- 64 percent predicts that cooperation between the president and the government will be poor until the end of this parliamentary term (although these are clearly cautious predictions);
- 23 percent it bodes well for these authorities to cooperate well;
- 13 percent no opinion.
What do Poles expect from Karol Nawrocki?
Poles were also asked about what they expect from Karol Nawrocki's presidency. The following themes dominated among the responses:
19 percent respondents expect, among others, improvement of the political situation, peace, harmony in politics, reduction of conflicts; that he will be the president of all Poles; the impossible, i.e. national reconciliation;
13 percent expects cooperation with the government and cohabitation;
11 percent expects self-reliance, independence, autonomy in decision-making, and partisanship in action; own opinion, neutrality;
10 percent — improving the situation in the country;
9 percent expects a better existence and improved quality of life.
9 percent expects, among others, honest government, decency, honesty, truthfulness; greater competence, wisdom, and reasonable decisions. Also, that the president respects the constitution;
8 percent expects patriotism: to fight for the good of Poland and Poles. Taking care of the interests of Poland, not other countries. So that Polish matters are put first, not EU matters.

The “Current problems and events” survey was conducted as part of a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of adult Polish residents, drawn from the PESEL register. The study was carried out from August 21 to September 1, 2025 on a sample of 917 people (including: 64.6% using the CAPI method, 18.8% – CATI and 16.7% – CAWI). In all three cases, the survey had the same set of questions and structure.
