US President Donald Trump said that the Nobel Prize laureate, Maria Corina Machado, called him and told him that he accepted the prize in his honor, the statement coming after the White House had previously accused that the members of the Nobel Committee chose “Politics to the detriment of peace”, reports Reuters.

Asked on Friday evening about the Nobel Prize, Trump did not directly criticize the Norwegian committee's decision, but he assigned his merit to solve several wars and claimed that Machado would have given him the prize if he had asked him.

“The person who actually won the Nobel Prize called me today and said,” I accept it in your honor, because you really deserve it, “Trump told the journalists present in the Oval Office.

“It is a very nice gesture. I didn't say,” Then give it to me, “although I think it would have done it. It was very nice,” he said.

“I helped her along the way. They need a lot of help in Venezuela,” the US president continued.

“It can be said that (the Nobel Prize) was given for 2024, and I apply (at the presidency) in 2024,” said Donald Trump.

These statements came after, previously, the Communication Director of the White House, Steven Cheung, claimed that those who decided not to give Donald Trump the much-draft Nobel Peace Prize “they put politics before peace”.

“President Trump will continue to obtain peace agreements, end the wars and save lives. He has a heart full of humanity and will never be a man to move the mountains only with the force of will,” he wrote X.

The Nobel Nobel Committee announced on Friday that the 2025 laureate of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize is Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless work to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and to struggle to obtain a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
