The only line through which the station received power from the Ukrainian energy system, was turned off on September 23. This is already the 10th blackout at the Zaporizhia NPP since the beginning of its occupation by the troops of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
Grossi said that the restoration of external power supply to the Zaporizhia NPP through the Dneprovskaya and Ferrosplavnaya-1 lines began after a series of consultations “with both sides” that took place over the past weeks.
“Although connecting nuclear power plants to the network will take some time, both sides have worked constructively with us to achieve this important goal for the sake of nuclear safety. No one will benefit from a further deterioration of the situation,” the head of the IAEA noted.

Context
Zaporizhia NPP, located in Energodar, is occupied troops of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation from the beginning of March 2022. Station works under their controland shelling and explosions are regularly heard near it. Over the years the object has been completely disconnected from the network, there there was a fire, drones were falling .
The Russians actually manage the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which does not produce electricity – all six power units are turned off. The Russians were unable to set up the station’s equipment, Energoatom reported.
At Zaporizhzhya NPP there is IAEA mission. In September 2023 and September 2024, the agency's General Conference adopted resolutions calling on Russia to “immediately withdraw” its personnel from the station.
Ukraine insists on the withdrawal of Russian occupiers from the station. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky stated that as long as the Russian military is at the Zaporizhia NPP, “the world remains on the brink of a radiation catastrophe.”
