The large investment is intended to protect against flooding in Poland. “This is the fifth and final element”

– We have signed a very important contract for the preparation of the construction of a flood control reservoir in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki – said the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, at a press conference on Thursday.
The Minister thanked the Ministry of Interior and Administration for the financial resources for the first stage, which will cost PLN 68 million. The investment is ultimately to be refinanced by the World Bank. The signed contract concerns the preparation of design documentation, author's supervision and the preparation of all necessary administrative decisions.
— The reservoir will be a flood shield for many towns in the Lower Silesian and Opole voivodeships, said the minister.

The reservoir is intended not only to protect against floods, but also to provide water in times of drought and to provide energy.

The investment will include:
- construction of a water dam 19 m high and 2.3 km long, creating a reservoir with a flood area of approximately 1,000 ha and a maximum capacity of up to 104 million cubic meters.
- associated buildings and installations necessary for the use of the reservoir, including a small hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of approximately 2 MW, ensuring an average annual energy production of 11.3 GWh.
— The Kamieniec Ząbkowicki reservoir is the fifth and last element that will protect the inhabitants of the Nysa Kłodzka catchment area. Osobłoga, Bóbr, Opawa, Biała, Iłownica – among others. We have prepared flood risk reduction programs for these rivers so that residents of all flood-affected areas can sleep peacefully – said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Przemysław Koperski.
The Kamieniec Ząbkowicki reservoir, as the fifth one in the Nysa Kłodzka cascade, will perform functions similar to those performed by the other reservoirs – Topola, Kozielno, Otmuchów and Nysa – and, in cooperation with them, will co-create the flood protection system of the Nysa Kłodzka valley.
