The Federal Court for International Trade decided on Wednesday that Trump crossed its power of attorney, imposing additional duties, while only Congress has such a law. This decision blocks both the introduction of customs duties on Canada, Mexico and China, which the American authorities accuse the insufficient fight against fentanyl smuggling, as well as “mutual” duties introduced at the beginning of April.

A spokeswoman for the White House Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference that the foundation of the decision to impose duties was common sense, and the Court for International Trade exceeded his competences.

The White House expressed the conviction on Platform X that the court judgment would be overthrown in the appeal. “The Supreme Court must finally put an end to this,” Leavitt announced.

Within three months of presidency, Trump announced four series of duties: in the amount of 25 percent. on Canada and Mexico and 20 percent on China, in the amount of 25 percent on steel and aluminum of all countries, 25 percent For cars and car parts from all countries (except Canada and Mexico), as well as the so -called Mutual duties towards almost 60 countries with surplus in trade with the USA, suspended after a few days and replaced with a temporary 10 % minimum rate (except China). Total customs rates for imports from China, which were the only ones to introduce retaliation duties, amounted to 145 percent.

The US President promised Americans in an election campaign that the introduction of tariffs would reduce the deficit in international trade, which is $ 1.2 trillion, and contributes to the creation of more jobs in the country, primarily in the production industry. (PAP)
