PSD interim president Sorin Grindeanu participates in the UDMR Congress on Friday, which takes place in Cluj and in which other representatives of the ruling coalition are present. During his speech, Sorin Grindeanu spoke about the misunderstandings in the coalition and thanked the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, also present at the event, for the support offered to Romania in joining Schengen.

Sorin Grindeanu reminded that Romania's accession to the Schengen area was achieved during the Hungarian Presidency at the Council of the European Union.

“I thank Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Hungarian people for being among our main Western allies in achieving this national objective. Today, when we travel without barriers, it may seem normal and natural, but we must not forget that Romania has been held at the Schengen door for 13 years. Separate, ”said Sorin Grindeanu.

Sorin Grindeanu: “Beyond us is only the desert of populism”

Sorin Grindeanu said that Romania “goes through a complicated period, in which the temptation of populism is increasing, and the patience of people is less and smaller.”

“If we fail, Romania will fail and we cannot forgive this. We must not give the truth. Beyond us is only the desert of populism. It depends only on us if we allow it. And here we appreciate the balance that the UDMR brought it in the Romanian political life, in general, and inside the coalition, in particular. He has to guide us all, ”said the PSD interim president.

“Sometimes we manage to confuse ourselves in translation even without the help of the Hungarians.”

He said that in a coalition the differences of opinion “are natural”.

“And the experience has shown us that sometimes the debate between us can be extremely intense. And if we are still at the UDMR Congress, between friends, allow me to summarize this by saying that sometimes in the coalition we seem to be on different languages, but I assure you that it is not because of our friends from the UDMR.

The PSD leader said that it is important to have a balance in the ruling coalition, and not to act “based on authoritarian and impulsive accents, but by listening to all opinions.”

“We must remain united in what really matters: protecting the power of buying Romanians, relaunching the economy, saving the local companies and stability of the country,” said Sorin Grindeanu.

The PSD interim president asked the UDMR to support and contribute to the national economic relaunch plan of Romania, initiated by the party it leads.

“Romania is going through a difficult time, which is why the Social Democratic Party has come up with a concrete proposal and will support all the correct, applicable and oriented measures to the good of the Romanians. We need a common vision, based on pragmatism and solidarity, not just to take good in the picture or to tick a chapter in statistics,” said Grindeanu.

“Personnel reductions or tax increases cannot be simple image exercises, but they must be held responsibly and produce real effects: to make the state more efficient, to reduce the waste, to support the private environment,” Sorin Grindeanu told the UDMR Congress.
