Action to count the homeless in the capital. The initiative takes place in 35 European cities

An action aimed at counting the homeless in the Capital will take place on Friday night, informs the General Directorate of Social Assistance of Bucharest (DGASMB) in a Facebook post.
The initiative “Homessness Counters” is coordinated by the Catholic University of Leuven – Lucas Center, Agerpres says.
The approach aims to bring more light on the unseen realities in the urban environment, writes DGASMB.
Similar actions are held in 35 cities in 21 countries of the European Union. The project aims at a better understanding of the dimension and specificity of this phenomenon, in order to develop “more efficient, more human and more adapted” to the real needs of people in vulnerable situations.
In Bucharest, the project is implemented by the Faculty of Sociology and Social Assistance of the University of Bucharest, the General Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Bucharest and the Carusel Association, with the support and involvement of the Association of Inter -Community Development Metropolitan area.
“On the night of October 11, we will carry out the counting of homeless people in the public space – on the streets, in the station, passages and other identified areas – together with over 150 students of the University of Bucharest, volunteers and employees of: DGASMB, DGASPC of the sector, the Carusel Association, the Army Association, DGASMB.
In order to have a complete image of the phenomenon, data and shelters in Bucharest that provide social services to homeless adults, victims of domestic violence, refugees and other groups, as well as hospitals and penitentiaries will be collected.
