How do Poles perceive alcoholism? Results of the latest study


According to the survey, most respondents declare moderate alcohol consumption.
The most frequently chosen answer was “several times a month”, chosen by 27.2%. respondents. Another 20.7 percent admits that he drinks only occasionally, for example during holidays or birthdays. 5.3% of people declare drinking every day. respondents, and 16.4 percent drinks alcohol several times a week. In turn, 16.3 percent he claims he doesn't drink at all.
The study also reveals that many Poles encounter situations in which alcohol is consumed not out of necessity, but out of a sense of social obligation – “because it is appropriate.” 74.1% of people perceive this situation. respondents. This most often happens during family occasions, such as holidays or birthdays (24.5%).
Alcoholism as a social problem
When asked whether alcoholism is a serious social problem in Poland, 56.9 percent respondents answered affirmatively. Another 29.9 percent sees this problem to a moderate extent. Only 7.7 percent respondents believe that the alcohol problem in the country is marginal, and 2.1 percent claims that it does not exist at all.

Interestingly, as many as 64 percent respondents admit that they know someone in their environment who is struggling with addiction. Only 27.3 percent denies, and 8.7 percent cannot give a clear answer.
Alcohol availability and proposed changes
Respondents were also asked about the availability of alcohol in Poland. According to 61.9%, alcohol is too easily available. Fewer, 27%, assess accessibility as adequate, and 7.7% believes that accessibility should be even more limited.
When asked what should be the priority in the fight against alcoholism, the most frequently mentioned were tightening regulations on the sale of alcohol (26.2%), support for addicts (22.5%) and education and prevention in schools (21.9%).. Other proposals, such as publicizing the problem in the media (10.1%) or additional fees for producers (6.5%), gained less support.
Public support for restrictions
The survey revealed that 67.9 percent Poles support a complete restriction on alcohol sales at night. 36.8% expressed strong support, and another 31.1%. rather agrees with this solution. A total of 24.9% are against it and 7.2% are against it. no opinion.

Respondents were also asked about the ban on selling alcohol on one specific day of the week. A total of 59.6% support this idea. respondents, while 26.9 percent evaluates him negatively.
The impact of price on consumer habits
The last question concerned potential changes in consumer habits if the price of alcohol doubled. According to 32.5 percent respondents, their habits would not change. 27.6 percent declares that they would drink less, and 18.5 percent would give up alcohol completely.
The survey was conducted using online interviews (CAWI) on September 26-28, 2025 on a representative sample of 1,001 adult Poles aged 18-80. The survey results shed light on the problem of alcoholism in Poland, which, according to the data, affects not only individuals, but the entire society.
