The US General Prosecutor, Pam Bondi, defended the criminal prosecution launched by the Justice Department against President Donald Trump on Tuesday, during a heated hearing in the Senate in which the Democrats accused him of using the judicial system for partisan purposes.
The former lawyer of the Republican billionaire is harshly criticized by the democratic opposition, which denounces the disappearance, under his leadership, of the independence of the US Department of Justice in favor of the White House, reports the Agency, quoted by Agerpres.
“In eight months, you have profoundly transformed the Department of Justice and left a huge stain on American history,” said Democrat Senator Dick Durbin, saying that, unlike Donald Trump, his predecessor, Joe Biden, never ordered the general prosecutor to prosecute his political opponents.
Pam Bondi defended his activity at the head of the Department of Justice, stating that he makes efforts to restore the confidence of the Americans in the judicial system after what she called political instrumentation during the administration of Democrat Joe Biden.
“We return to our main mission to combat real crime,” she said.
During his 2024 presidential campaign, when he was involved in several lawsuits, Trump has repeatedly suggested that if he returned to the White House, he would attack his opponents.
In a recent post on the SA TRUTH Social Platform, Donald Trump has lamented the lack of criminal prosecutors from federal prosecutors. Shortly thereafter, the former director of the FBI, James Comy, who led the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 US presidential elections, was charged for a false testimony before a Congress Commission.
During his hearing, Pam Bondi refused to answer a question of Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, who asked her if, the day before this accusation, she discussed James Comey with the president at a White House, presenting a photo in this regard.
Although these hearings in the Congress are traditionally an opportunity to attend dramatic statements from the political leaders, those of Pam Bondi have reached a level of virulence and rarely encountered. Adopting a combative tone, the US General Prosecutor has launched several personal attacks against democratic senators.
