The Commissioners of the Constanța Environmental Guard checked the refinery in Năvodari between September 9 and October 6, the Environmental Guard sent on its Facebook page.

According to the quoted source, the control and verification action took place following notifications regarding the stinging smell in the proximity of the refinery.

What did the commissioners discovered

Among the major irregularities discovered are: corrosions, non -stamps, an ammonia leak in the cold installation, as well as a lack of communication with the environmental authority, when they have discovered, since July 2025, the loss of ammonia in the cooling system.

“Ammonia is a toxic and irritating substance, and the oil operator has increased its consumption, which would indicate a loss in the system. For example, only in September the ammonia supply increased to 7000 kg.” specifies the Environmental Guard.

“In addition to the obvious ammonia leakage from the system, the source of the olfactory discomfort in the area, we have discovered other uncontrolled releases of dangerous substances and gas in the atmosphere and soil, most likely due to corrosions and non -sethnicities.”is shown in the message.

The GNM experts ordered the stop, within 72 hours, of the cold installation, with its secure and remedying the detected ammonia leak.

“At the same time, we requested the revision of the integrated environmental authorization to include the ammonia flow of the cold installation. The operator must present the ammonia procurement documents and the information about all the incidents/dysfunctions in the installations for July-September 2025”the Environmental Guard said.

In addition, the company is liable to a contraventional sanction between 150,000 and 500,000 lei for non -compliance with the obligation to immediately inform the environmental authority and to take measures to restore compliance as soon as possible.
