US nuclear security may be at risk – minister

In the context of the discussion of Shatdown, Wright outlined possible risks associated with the lack of further financing.

“We have about eight days of financing for the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA), which controls our arsenal of nuclear weapons, engines of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. After these eight days, we will have to move on to the emergency procedures for stopping work, which puts the country under threat,” the Minister emphasized.

Wright called the situation with a disagreement of financing the American government “simply madness.”

Context

On September 28, the Associated Press wrote that US President Donald Trump plans to use the probable Shatdown in his interests, including for mass layouts and restructuring the state apparatus.

On October 1, the US government stopped most of its activities, since deep party disagreements prevented Congress and the White House reached the financing agreement, Reuters said. This is the first stop of the work of the US government for almost seven years and the third under Trump’s presidency, it is also the 15th stop of the government since 1981, the agency added. The longest stop of the government in the history of the United States lasted more than 35 days-from December 2018 to January 2019-during the first term of Trump due to a dispute about the security of the borders.

Trump's economic advisers warn that the long stopping of the federal government, known as Shatdown, can cost the United States $ 15 billion weekly, on the same day Reuters celebrated.
