Yassine Bahassa, 33, offered an interview for the Sports Gazette in which she spoke about the time spent at FCU Craiova, the relationship with Adrian Mititelu, the so-called Gigi Becali offer and the reasons why the end of his adventure in Banie was tense.
The Frenchman with Moroccan origins recalled the most beautiful moments lived in Romania, but also the regrets he has after the separation of the Oltean club. Currently, Bahassa is evolving in the first league in Cyprus, at Kravasa Ypsonas, a team of the middle of the standings, but does not exclude a return in the superliger, where she says she has always felt respected and loved by supporters. He confesses that he had offers from Romania this summer.
Yassine Bahassa: “I lived unforgettable moments in Romania”
– Yassine, how was your adaptation to the life in Cyprus after leaving Romania?
– The adaptation in Cyprus was quite simple. The weather is extraordinary, most people speak English, and being a tourist country, there is no racial discrimination. People are correct and friendly. And in Romania I met wonderful people, the Romanians are warm, open and make you feel welcome.

– During the time you played in Liga 1 you were highly appreciated, considered one of the best foreign players in the championship. What is the most beautiful memory in Romania?
– I lived unforgettable moments with FCU Craiova. I felt loved by fans, and that mattered enormously, I think this is one of the reasons I had good developments, although I would have liked to have better figures. I like to create with the ball, and Mr. Mititelu and the coaches offered me total freedom in the fieldwhich helped me enjoy football. If I were to choose a single memory, I would say that the most beautiful moment was in my first season, when I played in the Play-off for Conference League.
7 goalsAnd 12 decisive passes managed Bahassa for FCU Craiova in Superliga, to which are added a goal and assist in the Romanian Cup. He evolved in Bănie between 2022 and 2024, leaving the band at the time of relegation. He came to Oltenia from the lower echelons of the Hexagon, from Quevilly Rouen.
“Who would refuse to play at FCSB?”
– You were wanted by Gigi Becali at FCSB. Why wasn't that transfer material? Did you have any direct discussion with him?
– Honestly, I learned about that interest more in newspapers than in reality. Neither I nor my agent have ever been contacted by someone from FCSB. We were just reading stories in the press, without being involved in any way. Who would refuse to play at FCSB and at the same time bring money to his club? No one. But unfortunately, no one ever asked me what I think or if I were interested.
I was interested and learned some things about Bahassa. Bahassa I can take at FCSB free of contract next summer. Why pay more money on him if I could get him free of contract?!
– Gigi Becali, FCSB patron, in November 2023
“Mr. Mititelu always respected me”
– How was your relationship with Adrian Mititelu?
– Mr. Mititelu always respected me, both myself and my family. It was fair to me about the contract, and when my first child was to be born, I left me in France, without any problem. He helped me a lot at that time. The problems have arisen only in the last 5-6 months of contract, but until then everything was fine.
– How did you feel in the time spent in Craiova? Even if the team relegated at one point, you were always among the best players.
– Any footballer wants to play well and be among the best, but for that you need a good atmosphere and satisfied players around you. In the last season it was difficult, because many colleagues had problems, some with the extension of the contract, others with salaries or transfers. It was a complicated situation, and under such conditions it is difficult to achieve collective goals.
700,000 eurosIt was the share of Bahassa in the summer of 2023, at FCU Craiova, according to the specialized portal Transfermarkt – the largest in the career.
Interest in Romania for Bahassa this summer: “There were a few teams”
“That's the way …
– I stayed even more on the bench than in the first season, due to the contractual situation: I was at the end of the contract in the summer of 2024 and I did not want to extend. That cost me many minutes and, by default, weaker figures. I regret enormously, because I know I could look a lot more. This is my biggest regret: that I left Romania without being able to demonstrate 100% of my potential.
– Do you think there is still the chance to play in Romania again? Did any team contact you this summer?
– Yes, there were some teams that contacted me in the summer, when I was a free player. But honestly, I was expecting more interest from some top clubs in Superliga. I was even surprised that the teams that were interested in me as long as I was under contract at FCU they forgot me completely when I became free. This is life, in football the world forgets quickly.

I am very sad for fans and club. FCU is a team with history, excellent conditions, a wonderful city, incredible supporters … I hope from the heart that FCU will one day return to the highest level of Romanian football and be well organized.
I know that Mr. Mititelu has invested enormously in this project, which is why it is painful to see how you get here. This club has potential to be in the top 6 every season. I thank the fans for their love, it's something unforgettable. For such feelings we play football!
