Employees are increasingly expecting support from employers in covering travel costs. These are subsidies for fuel, public transport tickets or transport services. Today, mobility benefits offer 9 percent. companies – according to the Bolt Business study. The report indicates that more than half of Poles commute to work by car and spend at least half an hour a day in it.

– Our research clearly shows that the basic means of transport is a car whose maintenance costs are of course high. For illustration – in Poland, access to work for the average Kowalski is PLN 137i.e. the amount of the sample account of several days of grocery purchases or the Internet account – says Newseria agency Magda Frątczak, Senior Country Sales Manager at Bolt Business in Poland. – The costs of these travel are significantly different in individual countries. Poland came out as the cheapest among all analyzed markets, and Slovakia turned out to be the most expensive. Between them were the Czech Republic and Romania.
A study conducted by Minds & Roses for Bolt Business in Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia shows that the car remains the most frequently chosen form of transport to work in each of the surveyed countries. In Poland it is 55 percent. respondents.
It is important that many people, in addition to daily access to the office, also use the car to deal with everyday matters, which means that they spend at least 30 minutes a day in it – emphasizes Magda Frątczak.
When asked about what they like and what they do not like in travel, respondents in individual countries pointed to various details, but clear patterns appeared. Among the benefits, respondents mentioned:
- time for reflection (35 percent),
- element of daily routine (34 percent),
- Time to relax (33 percent).
In turn, the most frequently indicated frustrations are:
- traffic jams (40 percent),
- costs (32 percent),
- Piston in communication (30 percent).
The level of satisfaction with access is quite high, because it is declared by about 2/3 of the respondents. However, the quality and comfort of travel is often a problem. Particularly clear differences can be seen between people from city centers and those commuting from the outskirts and rural areas, where satisfaction drops to 58 percent.
– Almost 40 percent employees in each of the countries would like to have Benefit regarding mobility, i.e. somehow would like the employer to compensate for both time and the price of travel to the office. Importantly, only 9 percent companies in Poland are able to give such an offer to its employees – notes the representative of Bolt Business.
Although more than half of employees (53 percent) do not have to appear in the office every day, surcharges for transport are the most frequently indicated benefit that could encourage them to be more frequent. This was declared by 48 percent. respondents. In turn, 36 percent respondents indicated the budget for commuting as one of the most attractive employee benefits. The refund of fuel and public transport costs was usually mentioned as the desired support. The expected monthly subsidies for access are an average of PLN 177.
– Practice shows that the mobility benefits system does not have to be complicated. We are talking about very simple solutions – it can be Fuel co -financing, monthly ticket for public transport or budget in the mobile applicationwhich gives you the opportunity to use it in the most favorable way for the employee – indicates Magda Frątczak. – Our study clearly shows that mobility benefits are one of the strongest benefits that build employee loyalty. Over 1/3 of respondents said that they are the most attractive to them. This shows how big the space to improve and how much potential companies have to decide on such a step.
For the youngest employees (18-24 years), transport services such as Bolt are particularly attractive – 28 percent indicated them. respondents. It is in this age group, i.e. among the youngest employees who started their careers during the Pandemic, expectations for benefits related to mobility are particularly strong. The possibility of using such support is an important element for them to improve work satisfaction.
