Cooperation of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia

The meeting took place on Thursday and Friday near the eastern border of Latvia. According to the Leta agency, participants – including representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of four countries – discussed the possibilities of strengthening the Baltic Line of Defense, a project aimed at increasing the security of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in the face of threats by Russia and Belarus.
The conversations were attended by, among others Division General Andis Dilans, deputy secretary of state at the Latvian Ministry of Defense, and Colonel Gunars Vizulis, commander of the 3rd Brigade of the Latvian National Guard. Poland was represented by Colonel Grzegorz Borysewicz, and Lithuania and Estonia, Lieutenant Colonel Virginijus Kleponis and Asko Kivinuk, respectively.
During the meeting, the Latvian side presented the details of the newly adopted act on anti -mobility infrastructure, which aims to strengthen the boundaries of the state. This Act, as emphasized, is a key element in the construction of the region's defense system.
Discussions also concerned anti -mobility, including potential cooperation in the field of mines and joint purchases. In the context of these conversations, it was recalled that in March this year all four countries announced the intention to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti -personnel mines. This decision, as indicated, was dictated by the need to adapt to new security challenges.
During the meeting, experiences were also mentioned and plans for further strengthening the Baltic defense line were discussed. The importance of cooperation between the region's countries in the context of growing geopolitical tensions was emphasized.
