“I will change the monarchy when I become a king,” says Prince William

The prince of Wales said he will bring changes in the monarchic system when he will be king, in an interview that the people in the palace say is the most open by the members of the Royal House.
The prince spoke to actor Eugene Levy in Windsor, for the Apple TV+ The Reluctant Traveller, writes BBC.
During the conversation, the actor asked Prince William about his future king role.
“I think I can definitely say that change is on my agenda,” he said. “I'm not afraid of it, this is the part that excuses me, the idea of being able to bring a change. Not too radical, but changes that I think should happen.”

The prince made these comments as he gave Levy a tour of the Windsor Castle.
The latest changes in the British monarchy include moving the focus on Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle as a center of the Royal Family, considerable increase in monarchy financing, and a significant decrease in public support, while King Charles III and Prince William promote the modernization of the institution.
Changes in royal residence
King Charles III prefers Windsor Castle for official events and family moments, reducing his presence at Buckingham Palace, which goes through major renovations. This change could turn Buckingham Palace into a space more accessible to the public, while Windsor will become the operational center of the monarchy.
Financial and structural adjustments
In January 2025, the financing of the monarchy through Sovereign Grant increased significantly, reaching over 132 million pounds, a subject of controversy. However, there were no major reforms in the structure or expenses of the monarchy, beyond this budget change.
“If you are not careful, history can be a real weight and you can feel suffocated by it.”
William arrived to meet the actor on an electric scooter that he said, used to move through the castle.
He said he had been a fan of the American Pie movie series – the maturation movies in which Levy played the role of a suffering father.
During the tour of some of the most granddaughters of the castle, Prince William also spoke about the history of his family.
“I think, if you are not careful, history can be a real weight and an anchor related to you and you can feel suffocated and too restricted to it.”
And I think it is important to live here and now. ”
Prince William emphasizes the importance of tradition, but says he is not afraid to ask questions to maintain the relevance of the monarchy.
“There are times when you look at tradition and wonder if it is still suitable for its purpose today?”
“Are there moments when you look at tradition and wonder if it is still suitable for its purpose today?” I like to question, that's what I want to say. “
The conversation carries the prince and actor for a walk with dogs around the castle, along with the family dog, Orla.
They talk about family, children, the intrusion of the press and the fact that they are Aston Villa fans.
And the tension to cope with the fact that both his father and his wife are facing cancer is a recurrent theme of their replicas exchanges.
“Family things overwhelm me quite a lot. You know, worries or stress about the family side – that really overwhelms me.”

The prince takes the actor to the TWO Brewers pub near Windsor Castle.
Levy commands a pound of Guinness, Prince William drinks a halve of sweet cider.
It is an informal framework in which the prince seems relaxed, especially when he talks about his family and how his children did when their mother did not feel good.
“We are trying to make sure we offer them the security and safety they need,” he told Levy.
“And we are a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us and about things that bother us, but you never know what side effects can have.”
“So it is important to be there for each other and somehow assure the children that everything is fine.”
The interview does not reach the state of relationships with Prince Harry.
But Prince William mentions his brother when he is asked about his experience in the royal family, increasing under the intense supervision that his mother and father faced.
“I hope we do not return to some of the past practices with which I grew up and Harry. And I will do everything I can make sure that we do not regress in this situation.”
In a statement for the BBC, Levy said he was surprised by how honest the prince was during the interview.
“For me, it was just a conversation. I didn't think about it as a news,” he said.
“He told me what was thinking and we could just talk. It was a completely surreal day for me.”
And while the prince and the actor finish his beer piles and end his day together, the prince says he wants to create a world that his son would be proud of.
“You know that life is sent to test us and it can certainly be a challenge sometimes, and to be able to overcome this is what makes us what we are.”
“I am so proud of my wife and my father, for the way they did last year. And my children did excellent.”
