The Ministry of Defense in Belgium opened an investigation after 15 drones were observed on Thursday night above the Elsenborn military base, located near the border with Germany, according to the Belgian press, quoted by Politico.
The Belgian defense minister Theo Francken said that it is not clear where the drones came from or who operated on them, but the reports indicate that they flew to Germany after they overcome the base.
Prior to this incident, also on Thursday night, flight devices were observed in the German air space, above the Franz-Josef-Strauss airport in Munich. Their appearance forced control of air traffic to suspend flight operations, which led to the cancellation of 17 flights, writes Politico.
In recent weeks, the airports in Denmark and Norway have suspended their operations after Drone were observed in their airspace, feeding the debate between European leaders on the feasibility of a “drone wall” on the eastern flank to protect against Russian aggression.
In the worst incident, 19 Russian drones crossed the border with Poland. A few days later, three Russian fighter jets entered the Estonian airspace for about 12 minutes, triggering a firm reaction from NATO.
Although the origin of these drone flights remains unknown so far, the Danish and Polish authorities have shown the finger quickly to Russia. Moscow denied the accusations.
