G7 states respond to the appeal of Donald Trump. “We'll take the goal”

“We will take specific actions to significantly reduce, and in turn to withdraw the rest of the import from Russia, including the import of hydrocarbons” – we read in a joint statement issued after Wednesday's meeting of ministers in online format.

“We will take the goal of those who increase the purchase of Russian oil after the invasion of Ukraine and those who facilitate the celebration of sanctions,” the ministers announced. No specific country was mentioned that could be covered by these activities.

The heads of the ministry also emphasized that they agree on the fact that commercial funds, including duties and prohibitions of import and exports, are important to cut off Russia's revenues.

Group G7 consists of the USA, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Canada. In 1997, Russia was attached to the group, which thus transformed into G8, but was suspended for an indefinite period after the occupation of the Ukrainian Crimea in 2014.

Appeal of the USA

In the first half of September, the Ministry of Treasury appealed to the countries of the G7 Group and allies from the European Union to impose “significant customs” on goods from China and India. This would stop these countries from purchasing Russian oil.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump imposed an additional duty of 25 percent. On import from India to force Delhi to suspend the purchases of Russian oil at a reduced price. Thus, he raised the total duties on Indian goods to 50 percent.
