The Senate Chief will discuss with his colleagues regarding the Mircea Abrudean photo reports
“I am president (no – Senate) for very little time. I have seen the topics recently and sure that I try to find out the reasons why these reports are blocked in the Parliament, because I do not understand reason. I do not think there is a logic behind this inaction of the Parliament. In the end, if we want to have a serious civil service, and this is to be approved. Their transparency, because, in the end, we all want (…)
They are of the SRI and SIE control committees, the members of those commissions have access to these reports, then, after they reach the permanent gathered offices, are approved in the plenary and then become public. I admit that I haven't seen them either and I will look very carefully”, Explained Mircea Abrudean, the head of the Senate, at the interviews Adevărul.
The President of the Senate said that “follows”a more serious dialog on this topic”.
“I want to understand what the situation is and do what is to be done as quickly as possible. That is, it is not normal, that I do not know, 3 or 4 reports, 3 or 4 years, not to have these transparent reports, because they become transparent once they have been approved in the Parliament plenary. We hide, if we talk about transparency and the Parliament is the most representative institution from this point of view.
And if we want these services to be effective, to be civilly controlled, that they have a civil control, they do not speak only of civilian directors, but speak of these commissions, which, in the end, control their activity, must be supported in this regard. I mean, they did their job, they did reports, let's publish them, to see the people who did these services, because they are too speculated on them, and I don't think it's healthy. And I saw in recent history that I had all kinds of speculation. “
SRI activity reports, blocked in Parliament
The annual activity reports of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) have not arrived for four years in the plenary of Parliament, although their voting is mandatory by law, according to HotNews. The last time a report was voted in the plenary was in October 2023, which was related to the SRI activity of 2020.
According to the law, the SRI must submit to Parliament every year an activity report. The report first reaches the SRI control commission, then transmitted to the permanent gathered offices and is subject to the vote of the plenary plenary, the document then becoming public. However, the 4 documents would have been blocked, including with the agreement of the leaders of the political parties, accuses the former head of the SRI control commission. “I am convinced that after we have a leadership at the SRI they will be subject to vote,” says the current head of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu.
The documents would contain information including the connection between Russia and the sovereign current in Romania.
