Many Romanians have planned their home renovation in 2025. How much they are willing to pay

Many Romanians are going to renovate their home this year, especially since most of the properties are older than 40 years, and the pandemic and financial difficulties that have not allowed them to deal with this aspect.

Three quarters of the Romanians who participated in a study said that they planned their home renovation in 2025, more than half of them to improve the comfort or modernization of the house, and 36% will only make the necessary repairs. At the same time, 21% of the respondents said they want to invest in increasing the energy efficiency of the home, and an 8% segment is preparing its home for a new family member.
The analysis carried out by Raiffeisen Bank, in partnership with the global appinio market research company, is relevant in the context in which Romania is the country in the EU with the most homeowners. According to Eurostat, the highest percentage of homeowners and apartments is registered in Romania, with a percentage of over 95% of the population that lives in a personal property. Our country is followed by Slovakia (93%), Croatia (91%) and Hungary (90%).
Consistent budgets and careful planning
3 out of 10 participants in the study propose a full renovation, while the rest of the respondents are planning partial renovations or minor repairs. 2 out of 3 respondents claim that summer is the best season for this activity.
The average renovation budget exceeds 9,000 lei, and in the case of extensive works, 23% of the respondents estimate costs of over 20,000 lei.
Romanians are preparing financially in advance for the renovation of the house. Most (54%) savings, but for whole renovations, some choose to use bank products such as credit card (20%) personal needs credit (18%) or resort to account discovery (11%).

In 6 of 10 cases, the works are carried out by specialists or specialized companies, and another 4 out of 10 Romanians choose to renovate alone or call a friend / relative. According to the Raiffeisen survey, the environment for the environment is important, so 76% of Romanians planning a renovation in 2025 choose ecological materials and solutions for renovation of the house.
