“It is an act of solidarity with allies”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland would send a military contingent to Denmark in order to support anti -done protection during two peaks – an informal meeting of EU leaders and the European Assembly of the European Political Community.
“We were satisfied with the request of the Danish government for help from Polish soldiers. We treat it as an obvious act of solidarity” – He emphasized Tusk, adding that the decision was made in consultation with the president and relevant state institutions.
“Wiking” contingent ready for action
The Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that 30 soldiers specialized in modern techniques of fighting drones would fly to Denmark.
“They are ready to depart,” he said in social media. The mission received a name Polish military contingent Wiking.
For several days, incidents with unidentified drones have been observed in Denmark, including over airports in Copenhagen and Aalborg. Prime Minister Tusk referred to talks with the head of the Danish government Mette Frederiksen, indicating that there is a risk of Russian provocations – similar to those that took place in Poland in September.
“It is worth realizing how highly Polish soldiers are, also when it comes to modern combat and defense techniques. It is such specialists who sends such specialists to protect the peak” – noted the prime minister.
In the opinion of the head of the government, although the situation has “sad circumstances”, the very decision to send Polish military is a reason for satisfaction.
“We have a reason to be proud that Polish soldiers were recognized as those who can secure these two meetings in Copenhagen,” Tusk emphasized.
Next steps in defense policy
At the same time, the Council of Ministers dealt with a project regarding the increase in the state's defense capabilities, including actions against hybrid threats. This is part of a wider strategy for strengthening the security system in the context of war in Ukraine and the growing activity of Russian services.
