The former candidate for the presidential elections, Călin Georgescu, has on Tuesday, September 30, the first term in the file in which he is accused of legionary propaganda, after the trial in the preliminary chamber's stage was postponed in early September.

This is the first file in which Georgescu was charged, after in July the prosecutors finished the indictment. He is going to reach the magistrates of the Court of Sector 1, reports Antena 3 CNN.

The former claimant to the highest position in the state was sent to court for the offenses of promoting, in public, the cult of persons guilty of committing genocide crimes, against humanity and war crimes, as well as the act of promoting, in public, ideas, conceptions or fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic doctrines.

Prosecutors accuse Georgescu of “asserted, in interviews, statements or posts in the online environment, his pro-law ideological consistency/links in the non-elegary environment with promoters of non-elegance ideology, in order to produce a change of perception regarding the historical classification of the legionary movement and in the legalization Connected to this ideology, meaning that he made several statements with a praise/laudative character to Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, Ion Antonescu, Ion Moța ”.

Georgescu has been placed under judicial control in this file since February, a measure that was later extended.

He has several prohibitions during judicial control, among which to leave the country without the approval of the judicial authorities, and is not allowed to post on the social networks with a legionary, fascist, anti -Semitic, racist or xenophobic character. At the extension of the judicial control measure, Georgescu cataloged the decision as “a total abuse”.

The first term in the file in which he is accused of legionary propaganda was on September 1, but against the background of the magistracy, the trial was postponed for September 30. It is not clear whether the magistrates will rule on the validity of the indictment on Tuesday, given that the judges have not announced the conclusion.

Georgescu will request the return of the file to the Prosecutor's Office, reasoning that the prosecutors' evidence is not solid, according to sources quoted by Antena 3 CNN.

The former candidate for the presidential elections is also charged in another file, together with Horațiu Potra, his son and two dozens of people, for complicity in actions against the Constitutional Order, after canceling the elections for Cotroceni in December 2024.

Horațiu Potra, considered the head of the mercenaries who planned, according to prosecutors, to challenge chaos in the Capital, his son and a grandson were arrested in Dubai and the Romanian authorities started discussions for his extradition. The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, estimated that extradition can take “a few months”.
