The Danish consortium of Femern A/S implementing the construction of a tunnel between northern Germany and Denmark announced that he was expecting a delay in this multi -billion investment. This would mean that the tunnel would not be put into use in 2029.

The reason for the delay is problems with the specialist ship “Ivy”, which is to install the tunnel in the Baltic Sea. The ship still has to undergo tests and get the appropriate approval.
The commissioning of “Ivy” is currently delayed by one and a half years. The opening of the tunnel at the original date, i.e. in 2029, is therefore considered to be very unlikely by the company.
The tunnel costing about EUR 7 billion is to connect the German island of Fehmmarn with the Danish island of Lolland. The 18 km project is to become the world's longest rail-road tunnel. This connection will significantly shorten the travel time between Hamburg and Copenhagen, and the access by car from Poland to Scandinavia will also become shorter.
