Cristian Diaconescu, presidential adviser for national security, said, at Digi24, that the elections in Moldova are carefully followed in Bucharest and the European Union, which will send Chisinau “a very serious signal” after the elections, depending on the result of these elections.
Invited to comment on recent statements of former President Traian Basescu, according to which there is a risk that Romania will have, after the Moldovan elections, a state on its borders led by pro-Russian politicians, Cristian Diaconescu said:
“We follow the parliamentary elections with great care. It requires a level of resilience of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, perhaps unprecedented. The consequences of the vote will be with very relevant political and strategic results.”
Diaconescu recalled that Russia can allocate funds “for the instrumentalization of artificial gestures”, reference to the attempts to bribe Moldovan voters, but the support of the European Union, especially of Romania, has translated by 1.9 billion euros non -reimbursable grants that went to the fields of energy, transport and so on.

“The management of the Republic of Moldova will receive a very serious signal after the elections, in one direction or another,” said Diaconescu.
He stated that a success of the pro-Russian forces could create “a new Kaliningrad enclave” on the border of Romania, in the context in which Russia has the control of the Danube mouths. “The Russian Federation has never hidden its intention to associate this area with its interests,” Diaconescu added.
