The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, spoke on Saturday about Gabriela Firea's decision not to run in the elections for the Capital City Hall and announced who the party prefers to go to the elections with.

Asked if Daniel Băluță, the mayor of Sector 4, is the PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall after Gabriela Firea's decision not to enter the race, Sorin Grindeanu said:

“On Monday we are meeting with the rest of the organization, with Gabi Firea and the sector mayors, with the Bucharest organization, but, yes, at this moment, and according to the polls we have, Daniel is the PSD favorite for the Bucharest City Hall. He leaves with the first chance,” said Grindeanu, in a press conference in Buzau.

Grindeanu was happy that “this time everyone is pulling the same wagon”.

“Both in Buzău and in Bucharest PSD is fighting to win. There are more emotions in Bucharest. PSD Buzău is one of the strongest organizations in the country and the strength of this organization plus the strength of Ciolacu, Marcel Ciolacu's desire to do good for Buzoians, make the organization in a position to win the elections,” Grindeanu said.

Gabriela Firea, former mayor of the capital, announced on Saturday morning that she will not run for Bucharest City Hall, saying that she wants to continue her mandate in the European Parliament. Firea also specified that he will give “total support to the social-democratic colleague” who will submit his candidacy.

The elections for Bucharest City Hall take place on December 7. Along with these, there will also be elections for the Buzău County Council, but also in several localities left without a mayor.
